Kudos to our BridgeUP Environment NYC Conservation Leadership Corps 2023 school year crew! The SCA crew completed hands-on conservation projects at six locations throughout New York City with agencies from city, state and national levels. This mighty team of 10 improved 150 feet of trail and 100 feet of shoreline and installed three drainage dips on a trail. The team learned new skills, from plant identification to trail navigation, while fostering an appreciation for green spaces. We thank the Helen Gurley Brown Foundation for supporting the BridgeUP Environment program and these conservation leaders! ... SCA interns are constantly learning new things while protecting the planet! Check it out. ⬇️Hello! Student Conservation Association intern Pep here! Last week I got to visit the San Marcos Aquatic Resources Center and had the chance to visit some staff and learn about interesting programs they’re working on. I got to tour various aquatic husbandry tanks and observe their work with the endangered Texas Blind Salamanders -- I’d never heard of those! These critters rely on clean and cool waters from the Edwards Aquifer. I learned that in their juvenile stage, they have eye spots and can only partially see but once fully grown, they are totally BLIND. They look like little dragons to me! 🐉photo: P.
